Often at music & arts events, we unfortunately find the latter existing as merely an accessory to the former. But how do we tip the scales back towards equilibrium? Enter The Progressive Arts Society: a collective for artists, by artists. The initiative has sparked a movement here in Philadelphia to help bring all mediums of art back to the forefront.
Their plan is simple: to elevate not only the art within our scene, but the way in which our community interacts with it. They’ve begun to accomplish this through a series of pARTS parties – synergetic experiences where art is placed on the same pedestal as the music. The first two iterations of this venture were intimate, taking place in founder Jason Gaber’s apartment. Despite these humble beginnings, the events have caught on, piquing the interest of many. It’s this that has allowed the him to expand, reaching a bigger audience with a much larger venue. On Saturday, March 23rd, the pArts collective will be bringing their experience to Voltage Lounge!
Headlining the event will be D.C.’s celebrated Choppy Oppy with direct support from Smigonaut and Philadelphia’s own Agent Zero and Shapesift! TheBusiness., Avrge Joe, and Bitsky will also be throwing down so make sure you get there early!
The featured artist for this installment is none other than the talented Joness Jones, bringing her psychedelic canvases to the party. Combined with A.L. Grime, GuMo, Mama Spunion, and a slew of other artists from The Gradient Perspective, as well as live animations from The Void, Mandalorium, and DR01D Visuals, all in attendance are sure to be as visually stimulated as they are audibly!
