Despite relentless support of his releases over the past year from heavyweights like Noisia, Bleep Bloop, and even Bassnectar, this Pretoria-based producer unfortunately only appeared on our radar as of recently. Halfway through his first US tour with Proko & Nasty Nasty, young prodigy Chee continues to scorch cities across the nation with his impressive sound design and innovation.

With influences such as Mr. CarmackVGM and Squarepusher, it’s easy to pinpoint where he inherited his experimental approach. His most recent halftime track “Pressure” (aptly named after his tour) is a valiant showcase of his uncompromising low-end technique.
With only a handful of dates remaining on this tour, there aren’t many opportunities left to peep the man in action before he heads back home to South Africa. Chee will also be performing this weekend on Saturday, November 18th in Brooklyn at sub.Sermon, as well as on Monday, November 20th in Philadelphia at The Boom Room.

But even if he departs before you’re able to catch him live, with his rapidly increasing notoriety and an EP on the way, we’re sure this breakthrough artist will be back soon!

When was your first introduction to Chee? Have you caught him live yet? If so, how was it? Let me know in the comments!
