It was 2015 at a small burn in Delaware called “Playa Del Fuego” where I first met TheBusiness. On an extremely chilly fall night we found ourselves huddled around a bonfire, trying to not to freeze to death. After speaking with Mike Barry for a while, he modestly asked if I’d like to check out some of the music he makes – I was not at all prepared for what came out of that portable speaker next.
Every track was so clean, deliciously glitchy, and meticulously executed; it sort of reminded me of Pretty Lights but with a unique flair that makes it a style of his own. I couldn’t believe such big talent was coming from such a small person as he mentioned he had hard drives full of originals. I was hooked. It was like finding a really good show on Netflix and realizing there were seven more seasons to watch.
Any fan of nostalgia will find refuge in this mini mix as this is something TheBusiness. Is known for. On tracks like “Fifth to Love” you will find how he brilliantly samples classics like Donna Summers’s “Love to Love You” with 50 Cent’s “Shake That Ass” over Beethoven’s “5th Symphony”. The Delaware-native even blesses us with his unreleased “Super Wash” that mashes Rick James’s “Super Freak” with Rose Royce’s “Car Wash” Transporting his listeners back to the 70’s for an old-fashioned funk down. Being only a taste of what’s to come, we’re excited to see what he has planned for his debut!
