Winter is coming. But first — Halloween. And the northeast quadrant of the US of Bass is doing it big (does it ever not?). With so many options, and so little time to see them all, we wooks decided to give you the lowdown on the premiere shows happening in our area, so you can make the right choices without the stress.
In the wake of his recently released Far From The Tree EP, Yheti has been blazing through venue after venue on tour, alongside DMVU, and younger brother Toadface, melting faces and taking brains. Catch him throwing down at Nightmare Fest in Maryland, October 27-29. His set date and time have yet to be released, but Yheti is also making an appearance at The Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA on Saturday, October 28, so that narrows things down a bit.
CoSM Deities and Demons Masquerade
Alex and Allyson Grey (or in this case Mr. and Mrs. Reaper) are opening up their humble home to visitors on October 28 for their annual Deities and Demons celebration. With live painting and fire performances, the event is sure to be spectacular, but the lineup itself is one for the books. Audio alchemist MiHKAL, Bogtrotter, and the deep dub maestro AtYya will be bringing that sauce to your eardrums, and if that ain’t enticing, then we don’t know what is.
Psybient visionary Simon Posford is gearing up for his Shpongletron tour, and heads could not be more excited. With a new album on the way and the promise of the live band in 2018, we’re not sure how people are even functioning right now. But in the meantime, gear up to catch Posford and his mindboggling Spongletron in Philly’s Electric Factory on October 28, the Boston House of Blues on Sunday October 29, and New York’s Terminal 5 on Halloween night itself, October 31.
While we surely missed Luna Light returning to Camp Ramblewood this year, we’re still holding on tight to Nightmare Fest on October 27-29. In its 5th year, the event has evolved from a small indoor party to the impressive 3-day spectacle we know it as now. Plus, big names like Levitation Jones, Jade Cicada, Boogie T, and The Widdler are sure to bring the bass, beats, and booty-movin’ grooves we all love.
BangOn! NYC Warehouse of Horrors
The heads behind NYC favorite Elements Festival, BangOn!’s Warehouse of Horrors will no doubt bring the same atmosphere to East Williamsburg once again. This time, it’s in a warehouse (don’t act like that didn’t make you smile) with two stages and a silent disco. More of the lineup is waiting to drop, but for now, we can rest easy knowing UK transplant Fatboy Slim, and world bass/trip-hop psychonaut CloZee will be treating us to a night to remember.
DubdayNYC’s Dubtoberfest and Tea Time Tuesday
If you’re looking to keep it lowkey and local, this double header party might just be what you’re looking for. On Tuesday, October 24, Dubday NYC is hosting a b2b event with The Saucy Monster, literally down the block from each other. Hit Tea Time 4 at Trans-Pecos for downtempo beats from NY originals Spundose, Jizzy Fra, and Soley, then head to The Gateway for that uptempo sauce from those same heads.
A Higher Halloween
This 6-hour party on October 31 is bound to be a massive banger held in one of Philadelphia’s favorite venues, One Art Community Center. There will be live painters, performers, vendors, and more, plus a mean lineup boasting heads like Brightside, The Widdler, Youngsta, and Thelem.
