Sometimes the best of gifts come in deceptively small packages. Keota’s new track, “Hey”, is a prime example of this. Tom Brennan, the mysterious figure behind the project, hails from Brooklyn, and lays down a track worthy of having a place on a future Tipper uptempo album.

“Hey”, at its heart, sticks heavily to breakbeat sensibilities, a la Cut Chemist without near as much scratching. Incorporating cryptic samples from Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Got Your Money” throughout, the real gem is the outro, which features a sample bass line not unlike that from The Meter‘s “Hand Clapping Song”. Its everything a great single should be: refreshing, well produced, and showing a lot of further potential. Don’t look this gift horse in the mouth.
